This period of Lent

Lent to us, Catholics, is the 40 days that comes before Good Friday (Easter). Why 40 days? Some may ask... well. To my knowledge, it is the symbolization of the 40 years that Moses and his tribes were lost in the dessert before reaching the promoised land.

We are all required to fast and pray during this period. The most common would be for catholics to abstain from meat.

But the underlying meaning is not to just abstain from meat in the physically world. The deeper meaning is to give up something that one enjoys and offer it to God, as reflection.

This year, instead of the meat and fasting...I'm gonna give up my "buying on whims and fancy" - mostly online shopping. I forsee that I do not have that much time to do physical shopping, while online shopping is something that is so accessible and I'm at it almost every single day.

I shall give up Online Shopping and Shopping as offering to the Lord.

I know I will face temptations but this is when the prayers comes in. =)
