Church history - Just Genesis.

Was at the monthly OGF last nite, at first was thinking of not going. But in the end, hubby and myself decided to go and it was the right choice!

Father Yim's lesson was on church history based on the bible. Very interisting topic!! We merely touched on Genesis and it took us 2 hours. And there were some references to the OT and NT. It's very interesting. I'm trying to do a recap of the lesson last nite.

First was Adam and Eve, then Cain and Abel, and from there, all the troubles started. Cain killed Abel coz God favoured Abel. Cain then fled and had sons and daughters. From him, came Noah. By then, the world has already sinned too much and Lord God created a flood to wash all sins away and God also made a convenant with Noah that never again will there be another flood.

They flourished and wanted to be like God, they build the tower of babylon but God came down and made them all speak different languages so the building got to be stopped (Acts, chapter 2, apostles came and unified all in a language)

From the men, came Abraham and his wife. Together, and also wif his nephew, Lot, they moved to Egypt coz of a severe famine. Then Lot and Abraham's tribes had arguements coz of the flocks and went on to separate ways.

Abraham met God and bargained from 50 men to 10 innocent and good men in the city of Sodom. But there was none and then the city was destroyed. Lot and his family except his wife was saved, she turned back to look and then was turned into a pilliar of salt, which is mentioned in Luke.

Abraham and his family moved to current day Egypt and the king took Sarah as his wife as Abraham was afriad that he would be killed. On account of Sarah, the king speared him when God told the king he had sinned. Abraham and Sarah were given flocks and land and they settled there.

Abraham who was childless, had no heir and Sarai gave him her servant, Hagar and Ishmael was born (12 tribes) Sarai was very very old, they had Issac (he laughs) coz the couple laugh when they were told they will have a son. Convenant was made to have the males cuircumcised (modern days, the sign of the cross made).

Sarah was not happy tat Ishmael was to share Issac inheritance in future and demanded that Hagar and Ishmael be sent away. Abrahram heeded her advise as told by God and Ishamel was also flavoured by God together with Issac.

After some time, God put Abraham to the test, and wanted him to sacrifice his son, Issac. Because of total obdience to God, Abraham was ready to sacrifice his son but the Lord having seen Abraham willingness, spear his son and instead a ram was offered up.

After Sarah had died and Abraham very old, he told his servant to find a wife for Issac in his home town and NEVER to bring Issac back. The servant met Rebekah who is the daughter of Abraham's brother. He told the oath to them and asked if Rebekah is willing to marry Issac and leave home. Rebekah had twins, Esau and Jacob. Issac preferred Esau and Rebekah preferred Jacob. Jacob took away Esau's first born birth with a bowl of soup and cheated Issac final blessings from Esau by disgusing himself to be Esau. Esau was upset and wanted to kill Jacob for robbing him of everything. Rebekah fearing for Jacob told him to go to her brother Leban and to pick a wife from the daughters of his uncle.

Jacob met Rachel and fell in love with her, worked for his uncle for 7 years in exchange for her. But Leban (the uncle) cheated Jacob and gave his older daughter, Leah to him. Jacob did not realised it was her and consummated the marriage. Leban told Jacob he can have Rachel if he worked another 7 years and went thru the week long bridal celebrations.

Coz God saw that Leah was unloved by Jacob, she had 4 sons, Rachel who was loved, remained barren. The wives gave their maidservant to Jacob and altogether, Jacob has 10 sons and 1 daughter. After claiming his wages. Jacob brought his family out.

Jacob's daughter was raped by Shechem but he was attracte do Dinah and wanted to marry her. The term on Jacob's side was to have all the males circumcised. Dinah's brothers attacked the city on the 3rd day after the circumcision and took her back.

Jacob was renamed as Israel. And his youngest son is Joseph, born to him by Rachel in old age. The brothers saw tat Joseph was the favourite son and sold him to the Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of silver (same price that Judas took for betraying Jesus) lying to the father that Joseph was devoured by a wild beast.

Joseph was then sold to an Egyptian and worked for him. The master left everything in Joseph's care. Master's wife was interested in him but when Joseph refused to lie with her, she framed him. The master engraged tat Joseph had 'tried to seduce' his wife threw him into the dungeons.
Joseph was able to dicipher the prisoners' dreams and this reached the Pharaoh's ears as he had dreamt tat 7 lean cows eating 7 fat cows and 7 ears of thin grain swallowing up the 7 fat grains on the single stalk.

The Pharaoh headed Joseph's interruption of the dreams and put him in charge of gathering enough food for the famine.

When the famine set in, people came to Egypt to buy some emergency supply and along with them, Joseph's brothers came. Joseph's brothers formed the 12 tribes of Israel.

I think these are the main points from the book of Genesis. There's too much details in the book for me to write here. But I think I have the giz of it now. And if I have to refer to Genesis again, I think I roughly know the history.

anxious and worried

Anxious and worried about many things.

Yeps! That descripes me to a perfect 'T'. I am the panicky kind, I worry and worry and worry think and think and plan and plan. Yet, most times, all those that I worry, all those that I fear do not come true. It's just me being anxious and worried and driving everyone crazy.

Yet, when I trust in the Lord, God, I always get a soothing feeling, I know that He is there for me, he is there to hold me should I fall, and even if I fall, it shall not be such a great big fall that I will loose my life. Coz HE is there to hold me.

Nothing is impossible for him when I give my trust to him. Let him take over my life and things will work out the way he wants them to.
